the digital orange photo blog I like to think of myself as a tuxedo t-shirt because I want to be formal, but really I'm here to party.

I'm Mike Cunningham and this is my photo blog.

I made it.  The flights were bumpy and super sketchy, but well worth it.  I could not believe what I was seeing when we flew into the Port of Valdez.  This truly is the mecca for skiing/snowboarding.  I'm glad I made the pilgrimage.

Gorgeous - but where are all the people? Guess that's why they call it the last US frontier. Have fun with the animals!

Tomorrow morning something very near and dear to me begins.

Every since I was a kid, I have dreamed of one day going to Alaska and heli-boarding on the glaciers.  I'd watch the snowboard pros in the movies and say to myself:  "that would be the coolest thing one could ever do."

Well, I've worked hard and saved my pennies.  It's time to kick this one off the ol' bucket list.  My dream becomes a reality starting tomorrow morning.

I depart John Wayne airport at 8am and begin my journey to VALDEZ, ALASKA where I'll be for the next week exploring the glaciers with a snowboard strapped to my feet with THIS company.  I CANNOT WAIT.  For me, this really is a dream come true.

Supposedly the lodge I'm staying at has WiFi, so check back for daily updates and photos.

Ryan Southwell:

Dude, this is on my list too. I should have started saving my pennies so I could have filmed you gliding down that oh so sweet mountain. Have fun, can't wait to see some pics, and if you see an avalanche... turn.

My buddy is there right now doing this. Have a fantastic trip!

I'm in Salt Lake City right now working on a commercial assignment.  While walking around outside, I found this grouping of signs.  I liked the colors present, but what really caught my attention was the tree behind it with colorful leaves on it.  Not common for these parts considering we're in the middle of winter.

Oh, and here's an image of Warren and Erin's wedding I'm really liking.  More coming soon.  I promise.

I was in Utah all last week for some family matters.  While I was there, I had the chance to break away and do some work on a top secret project with Richard K. Miller.  My task was to photograph the restaurant Pantrucas in Provo Utah and document the awesome establishment founded by Ricardo and Margarita.

I kid you not when I say this food was UNREAL.  I lived in Mexico for two years, so I know good Latin food when I see it.  Believe me, this stuff was legit and I can't wait to go back.  To top it off, you'll be a better person for talking with the owners, Ricardo and Margarita.  They are incredible people and will do anything to make your visit unforgettable.

Be sure and stop in, and if you do, tell them I said hello.

Ever heard of Skid Row?  Or better yet, ever been there?  It's an area of Downtown Los Angeles that is home to 7,000 - 8,000 homeless people.  I've always wanted to visit this "unsafe" area and photograph the people and landscapes.  I'm intrigued by the subculture and way of life these thousands of people call home.

This excursion was probably not the best idea I've had.  [insert mental image of a white boy walking around in Nike sneakers and cut-off shorts with a big camera and lens]  - you get the idea.  Luckily, I came away unharmed and only got yelled at a few times.  I will be going back soon.  Wanna come?  Jessica was brave enough...

I was quickly reminded of the fortunate life I have been given.  May we all remember how fortunate and blessed we are during this Christmas season.

Here's a peek into the life of Los Angeles' homeless who live on Skid Row.
